Birth Day

My dearest Cole,

Let me tell you about the day you were born...

First I have to start with the day before you were born...

That morning your Aunt Barbie and family left to go on a Flordia vacation. No other babies in the family had been late so we all thought it'd be safe for her to leave 8 days after you were due. When Aunt Barbie had Lake and Ellie I left the day before to go to Washington, D.C., and no one thought they'd be born 15 weeks early! I think you paid back Aunt Barbie for having her babies the day after I left!

That night after we got off work, Daddy, Cory, Derek and I went to KC because the guys wanted to go to Cabelas so they dropped me off at your Neena's house. I went to dinner with Neena and Uncle J and I had pulled pork. The reason that's significant is because Neena says that's what put her into labor when she was pregnant with me and your Aunt Erica.

Saturday July 6th, 2013 (9 days late)

3:00am I had my first contraction
4:30 I got out of bed, had breakfast and took a shower
6:00 I laid back down in bed and started timing my contractions. At that point about 10 minutes apart.

The sunrise the day you were born

8:00 Daddy woke up and rolled over and I said to him "I think I'm in labor!"
10:30 We left Emporia headed to Olathe
11:30 We got to Olathe and Daddy wanted Taco Bell before we went to the hospital

In the hospital parking lot- Our last pic of just the two of us

12:00 We walked into the labor and delivery wing of the hospital and got all hooked up to monitors. 1-2cm 80-90% effaced
1:00 The nurse said they were going to keep me and that I was officially in labor. Daddy started calling everyone to let them know that you were going to be born today! He first called Neena and she didn't believe him so he hung up on her. Then he called Grandma and Grandpa Stevenson and they didn't believe him either! He called back Neena and she finally believed him and came to the hospital.
1:45 I started walking the halls with Neena. It felt so much better to be walking! Then I went back on the monitors and then I got back up and walked with Neena and Aunt Erica.

3:30 I got in the jaccuzzi tub and it felt so wonderful!

Daddy thought this picture was funny to send to people

4:15 I had to go back on the monitors. 4-5cm Everytime I went back on the monitors they would keep me extra long because your heartrate would keep dropping.
4:30 Went back in the tub and the pain started getting unbearable
6:00 I asked for some sort of pain medication but I still didn't want the epidural. 6-7cm. Your dad and grandpa were not even at the hospital, they were down the road getting dinner and Neena had to call them and tell them to get back because it would be soon.
6:45 I was at an 8 and the doctor broke your water. I was so ready to meet you!
7:00 I threw up a lot of acid and it made my throat burn! I was so hot and sweaty and then I had puke all over me... it was a disgusting day.
7:26 I started pushing and the doctor told me that I might be pushing for an hour. Then it got really scary. Your heartrate started dropping dangerously low. I pushed through two more contractions before the doctor had to do an episitomy and put a vacuum on your head. With the same push that the vacuum was put on your head, you came out crying!
7:48 You were born. The doctor put you on my chest and I was so relieved to hear you cry! It was the most beautiful sound I'd ever heard!
