14 Weeks

We made it to 14 weeks and I've only had one melt down. Christmas eve Josh and I were getting ready to go to church and apparently my belly had popped out that day without letting me know. Everything I tried on made me look like I had a gut. I've always had a healthy size rear end but I've never had a gut before. Now, I've been introduced into the world of big butts and guts! When I started crying because nothing looked good on me and I felt fat, Josh made sure to give me a hug and remind me that I'm pregnant and it's just going to get worse.

So enough about me... the baby is the size of a lemon this week, 3.5inches long. That's a lot of growing in the past 14 weeks! Josh's parents got the baby a baby ring for Christmas and I love it! I never had a baby ring but it's a big thing in his family and I'm glad our baby will carry on the tradition.

Josh and I talked at lunch today about names for our little one. I'm still pretty set on Mia Jean and Josh hasn't picked a boy name yet. He likes Amos Joshua but I'm still really leaning towards Kale Joshua and I'm working on bringing him more towards that name.

We got the nursery closet completely cleaned out yesterday and we are now getting much closer to painting. I'm still thinking we wait until we know what gender we are having before we paint the room. I'm thinking neutral colors and then adding pops of color with the bedding, curtains and decorations on the wall.

13 Weeks

Well I'm officially in the last week of my first trimester! I had a sonogram yesterday for the NT scan, my sister Barbie went with me, and the doctor said everything looks great. I got to see our little one moving around and arching its back and I think the baby was sucking its thumb! The doctor also said that by looking at the sonogram the placenta is in between me and the baby so it'll prolly be a while before I can start feeling the baby move around. That's a bummer but at least I'm aware why it'll take a while.
In the picture you see baby's profile. Head is on the left and you can see the belly and part of a leg. Also in front of the baby's face is a little white line and you can't see it very well in the picture but that was the baby's hand in front of its face.

So we did the sonogram and then went to the waiting room to wait for the lady to do my lab work and then the sonogram lady came back out and got me and said she forgot to do a measurement so I got to go back and see my baby again. In just the matter of minutes I was sitting in the waiting room the baby had flipped over and was laying on it's stomach with its little hiney up in the air. That was the cutest thing I've ever seen!

12 weeks 4 days

Last week on the 11th we had another doctors appointment. The doctor laid me back and felt my stomach and could already feel the baby poking up. We heard the heartbeat and it was 157 so still pretty high! I found out that I am RH- just like my sisters and that I'll get the joy of having a big fat shot the same day that I have to do my blood sugar tests. What a great day my 28 week appointment will be!

We will have our NT scan on Wednesday the 19th and will get to see our sweet little baby again! In week 12 our baby is the size of a plum. Why is it that every week I find out what fruit our baby is the size of and then I just crave that fruit until the next week and a new fruit is introduced? I guess I'd better stock up on some peaches for week 13!

I feel like I'm getting a little bit of a baby bumb these days and that is super exciting! After my doctor's appointment on Wednesday I'm going to go look at maternity clothes. I don't feel like I need them quite yet but since there isn't anywhere in Emporia to get them I'm going to have to shop out of town at some point.

We got a crib and changing table last night so that means our first item of baby stuff has officially entered our house! It was a handmedown from the family that has Ranger's mama. So Ranger smelled the crib for a really really really long time and then he puked on the floor. When Josh and I were putting it back together I offered to put in some of the screws and he wouldn't let me. He said that he just likes to use his drill and I think he just wanted to be manly and put together his kid's bed. I guess it doesn't matter, I'm just glad it's done!

11 Weeks and Going Strong!

We are officially 11 weeks pregnant today!
TheBump.com says that our little growing baby is the size of a lime! 1.6 inches long and no longer has webbed fingers or toes, has hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds forming.
Here are the most commonly asked questions and the answers...
  • How are you feeling? TIRED!!! I used to be able to stay up until 10:30 during the week and still be fine. Now I'm falling asleep on the couch by 8:15 at the latest! I'm thankful that Josh gets up so early in the morning because he is so easily convinced that 8:30 is an acceptable bed time. I also feel sick from time to time. The mornings are pretty rough and then I usually have a couple times throughout the day that the sick feeling seems to catch up with me. I get really car sick for some strange reason. Everytime I get in the car I feel like I'm going to have to pull over to be sick!
  • Are you going to find out the baby's gender? HECK YEAH!! I had a dream last night that I could see our little boy swimming around and tossing and turning. I guess we'll see if it's a little boy or little girl soon enough. Josh and I have been talking about doing a big gender reveal party where we all find out at the same time because we want to share that time with our close friends and family.
Our next doctors appointment is on Tuesday December 11th and I'm super excited to hear our baby's heartbeat again. Such an amazing sound!

We did family pictures with Josh's family a week ago and we did some pregnancy announcement pictures too. I'm so excited to see how they turn out! A big thank you to MLG Photography, Mandy was wonderful to work with for the pictures! Also thanks to Michele Boyce and Studio 11! I text Michele the day of our pictures and in a panic asked if she could make an awesome sign for our announcement pictures and I think it turned out amazing!

Other exciting news is that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (William and Kate) announced on Monday that they are having a baby too!

No one knows their due date for sure but it was announced that she was less than 12 weeks along SO it's a possibility that our babies will be born right around the same time!

That's all for now!
With love from our soon to be family of 3!

Breaking the News to our Family

November 22nd was Thanksgiving this year and that was the day we got to tell our families the secret we had been keeping for over a month!
As soon as I woke up on Thanksgiving morning I jumped out of bed and got ready for the day! I was so excited to let the cat out of the bag. First stop was Josh's parents house. We got there about 11:15 and Josh and I decided to tell them as soon as we got there. We waited until everyone was in the living room (Josh's mom, dad, grandma and sister) and then I handed them all a grape and told them that was the size of baby Stevenson. I LOVE Brenda's reaction! She was so excited! Everyone cried and hugged me and they didn't even know that Josh was sitting in the other room secretely taking a video.

Next stop was my mom's house in Olathe so we hit the road. I knew my dad was out of town so we called him and told him on the phone on our way to my mom's. At first he asked "How did that happen?" Which was a typical response from my dad and then he got serious and was very sweet and told me how happy he was for us and how proud he is.

We made it to my mom's house and my mom was busy finishing dinner in the kitchen while Erica, Abel, Charlene and JR were all hanging out in the living room. So I grabbed up my sweet new nephew, Cruz, and then from the living room I yelled "MOM! Hey Mom!!!" When she finally said "What?" I said "I'm pregnant!!" No one believed me at first but then I showed them the sonogram picture and pictures of the positive pregnancy test and then they started to believe me! My sister Barbie finally made it to mom's house around 9:00 and I was laying on the couch with Cruz she came over to take him from me and my mom told her not to because I was practicing. Barbie looked confused and said "Are you pregnant?" I told her I was and she didn't believe me either!

Well, it was a successful Thanksgiving and now it's no longer a secret!! YAY!!

First doctor's appointment!

DUE DATE JUNE 27th, 2013!

We had our first doctors appointment on Monday Nov 12 and it was absolutely amazing! We saw our baby, saw the heart beat and then actually got to hear the baby's heart beat! I started crying like a big sissy but it was so amazing to hear the heart beat! I guess we can't deny now that we are preggers! The doctor said that everything looks perfect and he has no reason to think that we would miscarry. SO that means we are good to tell our parents!!! Thanksgiving can't come soon enough! One week from tomorrow and our families will know that there will be a new baby coming soon.

Josh has been so super sweet to me! Last night I ate about 4 bites of dinner and then I just felt sick to my stomach so I laid down on the couch and he cleaned up dinner and put the leftovers in the fridge and everything! (Not something he usually does)

So, we will be 8 weeks tomorrow! Pretty exciting! A little side note... the heart beat was 162 and the doctor said "Some people might try to tell you that it's going to be a little girl". Josh didn't like that too much but that put a smile on my face!

Also over the weekend Baby Cruz was born! He was 9 pounds 5 ounces and 21 inches long. Big and adorable! I love holding that sweet baby boy! After watching Erica deliver Cruz I wanted to change my mind about having a baby but I guess it's a little too late now!

7 Weeks

We are now 7 weeks pregnant and I'm beginning to not like pregnancy so much. The thought of food most days makes me sick. Eating food makes me sick. Looking at food makes me sick. Cooking food makes me sick. When I wake up in the morning before I can even think about food I'm sick. I eat because I know the baby needs it but OH MY GOSH I DO NOT want food. Josh made me a bowl of mint chip ice cream the other night and I managed to eat about 5 bites because I didn't want to hurt his feelings but just the smell made my stomach queazy. I have cut out caffeine from my diet. No morning coffee and no afternoon pop. I did have a sprite yesterday because I was craving something other than water but I had a hard time finishing it. I miss morning coffee with a little bit of peppermint mocha! It is the perfect time of year for coffee but I'm sure if I had a cup it would make me sick.

Our first doctor's appointment is this coming Monday the 12th and I am pretty pumped to hear the doctor confirm that yes we are having a baby! As of right now we are planning on letting the cat out of the bag on Thanksgiving. We will see his family for lunch and mine for dinner that day so everyone will get to know on the same day. It's 2 weeks from today and I can't wait to tell everyone! Erica is due in 2 days, hopefully she pops her baby out soon! Baby Cruz is going to have a baby cousin in about 7 months!

Here's the story...

Well, I've never been a blogger before... Except when I had a xanga account in the dark ages and I don't think that really even counts!
2 reasons I'm doing this... 1. I'm sure everyone is going to want to know the story and the details along the way so I figured I would do a blog so people could keep up and 2. I also thought it would be neat to give our child a copy of all the posts at some point in their life.

Here is my first attempt at blogging, I'm sorry it is so long but there is so much to tell right now...

The BIG news!! WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!

Here is the story up to this point...
Josh and I got married Oct 7, 2011 and within a few months I started asking Josh when we were going to start trying for a baby and he always responded with "Not right now". So I would just ask him again every so often and it was always the same response... Until one day... July 9, 2012, Josh came home on lunch and when we finish lunch early we usually lay on the living room floor and play with Ranger for a little bit before Josh goes back to work. Josh laid down on the floor and then looks at me and says "I'm ready for a baby." I almost peed my pants I was so excited!!! I told Josh to take a few more days to think about it and the next day he told me that he was for sure ready. So I called and made a doctor's appt to go off birth control and started taking prenatal vitamins the same day. The next day I found out that I was getting a pretty good raise and I'm sure that was just God's way of reassuring us that we were doing His will. July 25th was my doctor's appointment, I was officially off birth control and we were officially trying! For those of you that care... Here is TMI, I was on Paragard so there were no hormones (birth control hormones give me migraines) so we were really ready that same day to start trying for a baby.

So July, August and two weeks of September pass and no baby. Well I took a pregnancy test on September 19th because I was a few days late and there was a faint second line saying that I was pregnant and the next day the same thing and then I started my period. I called my doctor, who is in Olathe, and they sent me to the hospital in Emporia to get a blood draw. I went once and they didn't test my blood for the right thing so I had to go back and get a second blood draw. I was NOT a happy lady! The weekend came and passed and when my doctor's office called me back with the results they said it was either a false positive or a very early miscarriage. So, we went on with life.

October 3rd was THE day... if you know what I mean...
Josh and I left that evening to go to Kansas City so that we could catch our flight to Philadelphia for our one year anniversary trip. We had an amazing time in Philly and NYC with my cousins!!

I was scheduled to start my period on Oct 17th and that day came and went, so did the 18th and then on the 19th the women in our church left for Women's retreat for the weekend. So then Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Women's retreat came and went and no monthly visitor. During Saturday morning's service Janie Horst stood up and said that she felt God was telling her that someone was trying to get pregnant with no luck and that God was going to give that person a baby... At that point I knew I was pregnant. We got home Sunday night and Monday morning I took a pregnancy test and then a second and then a third and they were all clearer than day that I was pregnant!!!!

So, I know that I'm pregnant and now I'm trying to figure out how to tell my husband... Well I did a picture slideshow with pictures from our wedding and then pictures from the last year and then at the very end I put a couple of slides with text...

  • I LOVE YOU and I can't wait for the next stage in our lives....

  • What is the next stage for Josh and Dorothy???

  • WE ARE GOING TO BE PARENTS!!!!

  • Baby Stevenson is due June 2013!!!!

When the "WE ARE GOING TO BE PARENTS!!!!" part came up on the screen, he snapped his head towards me and said "WHAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS?"

It was super great and the best part is that I hid our flip video camera and recorded the whole thing so I have his response on video!!!

That's all for now....
